GUJAR KHAN: Education is a must for the young generations of the
present times which out which success is not possible. The students
should devote all their energies to achieving this end so that they
may be able to make their life easier and comfortable. This was
stated by First Secretary (Political),
British High Commission, Islamabad, Philip Stewart while addressing
students of a private college in a village here on Monday evening.
Philip Stewart said that he was really impressed by the
performance of the students’ standard of the institution and quality
of education which was
being imparted to the students. The first secretary called upon the
students of the institution to work more and hard.
Anwar-e-Madina Model College held annual results declaration
ceremony in its campus which is situated in village Narali Jabbar,
about 20 kilometres
from here. The college was established by a British Pakistani and
President PML (UK) Raja Ishtiaq Hussain who is Community Welfare
Advisor to the Govt of
Pakistan (UK). It provides education, books, uniform, etc free of
cost to the students. To equip the have-nots with modern education
and training, to
provide the students training in Information and Technology, to
offer a combination of Islamic and worldly education, to extend free
health care
facilities to the students as well their parents are some of its
major objectives.
On this occasion Barrister Rasheed Mirza also addressed the
gathering which included teachers,parents, lawyers, and general
public and said that
establishment of the college was a difficult decision and the result
of untiring efforts of overseas Pakistanis whose services for their
homeland have
always been great and grand .Although they live abroad, yet they
always think about and feel for
Pakistan, he added. He gave some pieces of advice to
the management of the college to bring about more improvements.
While addressing the gathering, Community Welfare Advisor to
the Govt of Pakistan Raja Ishtiaq Hussain said that the only
objective that he had in
his mind when he thought of establishing a college in this rural
area of tehsil Gujar Khan was the betterment and welfare of the poor
people of the area.
He said that the college offers an opportunity to learn and get
educated to those children who otherwise might not have got
education; it attracts those parents for whom the educational
expenses for their children’s schooling are unaffordable.
In his address, Town Nazim Chaudary Muhammad Azeem commended
the efforts of Raja Ishtiaq and said that setting up the college
and priding free education to the people of the area was an act of
piety which will earn him reward not only in this world but in the
Hereafter, too. Professor Saeed highlighted the importance of
education on this occasion. Among others, the function was attended
by Major Iqbal Jadoon, colonel Iftikhar who is chief security
officer to prime minister, Malik Ghazanfar who is the chairman
Ilford Islamic Centre
(England), and Union Council Nazims. In the end, the speakers
also gave away prizes to the students of the college for their
brilliant academic performances in curricular and co-curricular
activities.

GUJAR KHAN: Pakistani and British people work for the betterment
and welfare of the humanity. The liaison between the two countries
is growing on that
ground. This was stated by British High Commissioner Robert
Brinkley while addressing a gathering as a chief guest on the
occasion of inaugural ceremony of
Al-Mustafa Trust Medical Centre in a village her on Tuesday. The
British High Commissioner said that he was pleased with the fact
that both the countries are
committed to serving humanity.
The chief guest further said their religion is against
hatred, extremism and terrorism. It preaches love and tolerance. He
said to love man is to love God. “God is Love and that who abides in
love, in fact, abides in God” He spoke highly of the developing
partnership between the two countries. He said that Pakistan has
become come up second as receipt in the domain of British
development. The Prime Minister Tony Blair doubled the amount of
aid to the government
of Pakistan.
The British High Commissioner deplored the suicide bomb attack
in Charsadda on the interior minister which killed about 30 men. He
said four
Pakistani Britons were convicted of life imprisonment in a terror
plot after making thorough and hectic investigations which spanned
over a year.
Al-Mustafa Trust Medical Centre was established in a small
village Dhoke Syedan, situated about 25 kilometres away from here.
The initiative of
establishing the Trust was taken by Syed Munawar Hussain Shah Gilani
who is a resident of the village and a British national. Lt.
General (retired) Ghulam Muhammad Malik who is the chairman of the
Al-Mustafa Trust Medical Centre
also addressed the audience on this occasion and said Talking to
reporters, he said that health and education are the most important
fields of human life.
Western countries made progress and became advanced only after they
gave top priority to these two areas.He was hopeful that the Trust
would progress by leapsand bounds in the days to come.
While speaking to the gathering on this occasion, Community
Welfare Advisor to Government of Pakistan & President PML (UK) said
that Pakistani expatriates in the UK are focusing their attention on
and helping to solve the basic problems related to health and
education being faced by peoples of Pakistan. He
expressed happiness that the British prime minister‘s last tour to
Pakistan was very fruitful in bringing the two countries together.
The two premiers inked a
10-year agreement of cooperation and aid which will strengthen the
relation between the two countries. Town nazim Chaudary Muhammad
Azeem also addressed the gathering and said that the government was
committed
to solving the basic problems of the common people. He assured that
residents that he would solve their problems related to construction
of a link road and
provision of water supply to their village. In his address
earlier, the host Munawar Hussain Shah Gilani asked the government
representatives Town nazim Chaudary Muhammad Azeem and Community
Welfare Advisor to Government of Pakistan to get the link road which
leads to their village and the Trust
constructed. He also said that the underground water in the premises
of the Trust was saltish and therefore not drinkable. He demanded of
the town nazim for a
water supply scheme. Earlier on his arrival, the chief guest was
accorded
a splendid reception. National flags of both thecountries were
hoisted and national anthems of bothcountries were played. Lt.

Muhammad Malik hoisted the Pakistani flag whereas British High
Commissioner Robert Brinkley hoisted Union Jack. National anthem of
Pakistan and of Briton
were sung by boys and girls of a local school respectively.
NHMP road awareness camp begins in Gujar Khan

GUJAR KHAN: Observance of traffic laws is a must for the safety of
commuters & road travelers . This was said by Mr Shahid Yar Khan
deputy inspector general of National Highway &Motorway Police (NHMP)
northern region while expressing on the occasion of the infusing
general awareness among the public about the
traffic laws on Wednesday.
The officer said that NH&MP was not a revenue generating
organization by imposing fines at the road users. He said that mass
awareness on traffic laws was being emphasized to minimize the
accidents and the fine as well.
The NH&MP has set up a camp at the main road crossing here in a bid
to express solidarity with the United Nations Organization. The camp
is scheduled to continue till 29th April. The speakers on this
occasion said that NH&MP has set a new trend of rule of law on the
roads , which should be emulated by
other organizations as well. On this occasion, City District Nazim
Raja
Jawaid Ikhlas spoke highly of the performance of the National
highway and motorway police in ensuring safe and smooth traffic flow
at the highways under its
jurisdiction.

handedness of the police and the criminal elements of their areas
while the managements of their

press club.The chief guest said that the journalistic community
should work unitedly for lighting the way to truth and for helping
out the poverty- laden masses. Mr Shahid also announced for bearing
the expenses of Umrrah travel of a luck newsman through a on-the-
spot draw. Hamid Asghar came out winner of the draw to avail himself
of the opportunity of visiting the Harmain shrifain in Saudia
Arabia. Later on Raja Muhammad Zaheer Ex MNA administered oath

Residents of village Bewal have asked for
rectification of faulty transformer.

GUJAR KHAN: Residents of a village have express outrage over
inaction and delay on part of an SDO to repair /replace a faulty
transformer. The residens of village Islampura Jabbar said that an
electricity transformer installed near Govertnment High School,
Bewal had been out of order for the last many days.
They said that in the sweltering heat, it is extremely difficult to
live without electricity and their nights are plagued with onslaught
of mosquitoes. They are spending sleepless nights these days wothout
supply of electricity, they added.
When asked, the SDO ( Bewal Subdivision) said that "No need to
hurry, the transformer will be repaired." The residents of Islamabad
Jabbar have
called upon the chairman , WAPDA to order rectification of a faulty
transformer.

hurling threat of closing down a private TV Channel " Aaj" for

proceedings of address of the non-functional chief justice of
Pakistan to newly -elected officer bearers of Peshawar High Court
Bar. An emergency meeting of
Potohar Press Club was held here on Monday with president Malik
Muhammad Wazir in the chair and a resolution was unanimously passed
which condemned the threat-hurling act of the government . The
meeting observed that the act amounted to gagging freedom of the
press . The meeting said that the government had gone unnerved due
to the growing popularity of the
chief justice .

Lawyers of Gujar Khan Bar Association (GBA) observed complete
strike and boycotted court work in protest against
predential reference on Thursday . The lawyers had already
decided in their meeting held on April 10 that they
would attend the demonstration sceduled for 13th April ( today).
The police of Gujar Khan Circle, on the other hand,
have arrested many workers and local leaders of opposition parties ,
especially of MMA and PML(N).

couple has lost their lives in a road accident on Chakwal
Road. motorcylist Muhammad Nazir and his wife Suraya
Begum were going to Dhudial
on their motorcycle ( KAB = 5252) . And when they were negotiating a
sharp turn at Tarkawal More, a speeding passenger van ( RIR = 8475)
ran into it. both teh
husband and wife died on the spot , the collision was so severe. The
driver of the passenger van has reportedly made good his
escape.

GUJAR KHAN:
About 110 telephones went dead about two months
ago due to malicious cut of underground telephone cable for
the fifth time in villages in
tehsil Gujar Khan. The subscibers have collectively decided
not to deposit the bills as a protest against failure to
rectify the faulty. Residents of villages Matwa, Dhoke
Rajputan and other adjacent areas have complained that their
telephones have gone dead yet
again as reportedly undereground cable was maliciously cut off ,
thus disconnecting teh telphonic link in the areas.
They said that this was the fifth time in the
current year that malicious cut of telephone cable have made .The
subscibers further said that more than two months have passed but
the fault has not been set right. And the Pakistan
Telecommunication Company
Limited (PTCL) is sending bills nad they have ben paying line
rent regurlarly, they complained. They have strongly protested
against failure and have reportedly decided not to
pay the bills as a protest.
The subscibers have called upon the higher
authorities of the PTCL to take cognizance of the situation and
order redressel of their complaint.

GUJAR KHAN:
Lawyers of Gujar Khan Bar Association (GBA) unanimously passed
a resolution, condemning registration of an FIR against a lawyer in
the police station, Gujar Khan. Later they took out a protest
rally to express solidarity with the aggrieved lawyer on Wednesday.
An emergency meeting of the GBA was held here. The
meeting was also attended by President High Court Bar,
Rawalpindi Bench, Sardar Ismat Tullah , General
Secretary Sajid Iliyas Bhatti and District Bar
Association Rawalpindi and members of Punjab Bar
Council. The meeting said that registration of an FIR against
advocate Mian Shujjah was an act of vindictiveness and
victimization. After the meeting,
the lawyers marched out to the office of the deputy superintendent
of police and met with the officer. The DSP assured the protesters
that an impartial inquiry
would be held to ascertain the facts. He also said that case
would be decided on basis of justice and merit.

GUJAR KHAN: The owners of Jinnah Plaza have moved court
against the action of town nazim to construct a wall on the
encroached part of the plaza. The owners
including Haji Walayat Hussain , Haji Fazal Hussain and others
moved Lahore High Court , Rawalpindi Bench and the court
demanded presentation of record on
25th April. The complainants have challenged an FIR registered
against them in police station, Gujar Khan.

KHAN: The lawyers of Gujar Khan Bar Association (GBA)
held a meeting on Wednesday here to condemn the presidential
reference against the chief
justice of Pakistan and also expressed solidarity with
the non-functional CJ. The meeting was also
attended as guest speakers by President High Court Bar,
Rawalpindi Bench, Sardar Ismat Tullah , General Secretary
Sajid Iliyas Bhatti and District Bar
Association Rawalpindi and members of Punjab Bar
Council. The guest speakers and local lawyers addressed
the meeting and said that rendering the chief justice was
a national tragedy. They said that the lawyers are writing a new
chapter in the history of Pakistan. They termed it as dictatorial
act. They said that the protest of the lawyers across the country
has made it into a movement which is getting intensified each day
even after the passage of more than one month.
A sodomite-killer has been sentenced to
death penalty & rigorous imprisonment.

man who was convicted of sodomy and murder of a minor, was sentenced
to death penalty, 10-year rigorous imprisonment and fine worth
rupees one lac here on Friday. Additional session judge (ASJ) Mian
Muhammad
Shafi announced the penalty on Kashif Siddique son of Muhammad
Siddique, resident of village Pind Paiyan, situated in the
jurisdiction of police station Mandra. On 10th April, 2003,
Kashif Siddique sexually assaulted a 12-year old Waqar Hussain son
of Shabbir Hussain, of his village and after performing sodomy on
him, murdered him brutally with a brick. An FIR was registered
against the murderer under sections 302,
377 and 12 offence of Zina. The trial of the case continued in the
court of ASJ, Gujar Khan for about four years and on Friday, the
murderer was convicted. He was sentenced to death penalty for
murder, 10-year imprisonment & a fine of rupees one lac for
performing sodomy on the victim. Advocate Amir Shafeeq Qureshi
pleaded the case for the complainant/plaintiff.

Four persosns suffer burn injuries as an oil
tanker leaks, causing loss of millions of rupees.

GUJAR KHAN:
Four persons including a driver and a helper of an oil tanker were
burnt when the oil tanker accidentally leaked and caught fire,
causing loss of million of rupees at a railway crossing near village
Mureed on Mandra-Chakwal Road on
Friday. As soon as the oil continued to spill, fire turned into
conflagration and spread to an adjacent market, gutting about eight
shops & causing losses to the tune of millions of rupees. The
police from Rawalpindi & all the three police stations in Gujar
Khan, fire engines from Gujar khan and Rawalpindi spilt to the scene
of inferno.
According to police
sources and eyewitnesses, an oil tanker (LSB - 912) was going from
Adhi oil filed to oil refinery at Morgah in Rawalpindi at about
10:45 am on Friday. When it reached near Mureed Railways crossing on
Mandra –Chakwal Road,
about 9 kilometres from Mandra and 25 kilometres from here, its
drain valve got loose and oil started gushing out. Within no time,
the oil caught fire and the whole tanker was engulfed in flames. The
driver Adil Shehzad , son of Muhammad Sadiq and the helper
Zaheer son of Faiz Ahmed , both residents of Pindi Gheb, tried to
get off the vehicle but they got stranded in inferno and in
the process, were severely injured by flames. The injured driver and
the helper were rushed to rural Health Centre (RHC), Mandra where
the doctor on duty said that both the victims had received about 80
percent burn injuries. They were immediately shifted to Rawalpindi
as their condition was stated to be precarious.
In the process, two passers-by –a woman Fareeda Begum and a boy
Wasim, residents of Mureed village —were also burned. But their
injuries are
stated to be minor by the eyewitnesses.
The conflagration continued for
about two hours. It consumed the oil tanker and spread to an
adjacent market. Fire engines from Town Municipal Administration
(TMA), Gujar Khan were called in. But because the fire was wild,
efforts to control the fire failed. In they meantime, fire engines
from Rawalpindi were also called in. Finally after hectic and
frantic efforts which continued for about two hours, the
conflagration was controlled –only after it had caused huge
losses.
The fire
spread and it engulfed a nearby market (Haji Zafar Market) and
gutted about eight shops and destroyed the contents therein, worth
millions of rupees. All the shops including a public call office
(PCO), a general store, a hotel, a Coca Cola agency were also
burned down. A Datsun car (LXX-2235) was also burned down by the
fire. The owner of the market, Haji Zafar, told the reporters
that the fire had caused a loss of about 4 million rupees.
The police sources said that
the oil tanker was filled with 52 thousand litres of oil and
the split oil amounted to 1.5 million of rupees. On hearing the
about the accident, people all round from the neighbour hood
thronged the scene of accident. Superintendent of police (Rural)
Sheikh Karim Buksh, DSP Raja Taifoor Akhtar, station house officers
of all the three police stations, Nazim union council Mandra Raja
Zulfiqar Ahmed were among those rushed to the scene and helped in
extinguishing the
fire.

A grant worth rupees one million for every Tehsil Headquarter
Hospital (THQ) in Ditstrict Rawalpindi: Javed Ikhlas

District Nazim Raja Javed Ikhlas said that the mortality rate in
childbirth has substantially come down whereas shortage of staff in
the hospitals has also been overcome because of the positive
measures taken by the district government.
This was stated by the Disrtci nazim while addressing a function
organized by an NGO “Paimaan” under the subject:”Save the
children” at tehsil headquarter hospital on Friday. He said that
they district government is spending a millions of funds on
provision of medical facilities in the district. He said that
district government has also upgraded
facilities in the labour hall. The district nazim said that the
district government is providing a grant worth rupees one
million to every THQ in the district. He said that
under construction trauma centre would be completed by June
this year.

GUJAR KHAN: A
bridge on one of the major roads in the western part of Tehsil Gujar
Khan has caved in on Monday, dividing the western part of the Tehsil
in two parts and cutting off transport service. The residents and
commuters are facing injuries and
inconvenience due to the collapse. They have appealed to the
district government to get it reconstructed on emergency basis and
thus restore road link as early as possible.
A small bridge on Guliana-to-Bhangali
link road near village Dera Muslim has collapsed as the recent rains
softened the foundations of the bridge and the supportive wall of
the bridge has given way, bringing the bridge down. The collapse has
cut off the road links due to which the residents and travellers of
the areas are facing a lot of convenience.
On Tuesday, a motorcyclist who plunged into
the collapsed bridge, sustained serious head injuries while his wife
also injured. Chaudary Muhammad Gulzar, resident of Mohra Gujran was
coming back home along with his wife Munawar Sultana on his
motorbike (RLE- 8339) and they fell headlong into the collapsed
bridge as they were not aware of missing bridge. As a result of the
fall, Chaudary Muhammad Gulzar received critical head injuries and
became unconscious while his wife’s leg was fractured. They were
rushed to Tehsil Headquarter Hospital here. The condition of
Chaudary Muhammad Gulzar was so critical that he was shifted to
District Headquarters Hospital, Rawalpindi. He had not regained
consciousness till the filing of this report.
The commuters and residents of the
area have asked the district government to get the bridge
reconstructed at the earliest as it is a major and busy road of the
area. It links Guliana Road (which branches off from Grand Trunk
Road) to Chakwal Road

GUJAR KHAN: A
man was run over while crossing the dual carriageway here on Monday.
Muhammad Nazir son of Ghluam Haider , resident of district
Wazirabad ,who was driver of a Toyota Hiace ,scaled the
railing set up on meridian between dual carriageway and as he jumped
down the railing , he was hit by a car ( LXN -3395) coming from
Lahore side. In the meantime, another car (NWFP-B 4215) coming from
the same side also run over the accident victim and he died at the
spot. The police have impounded both of the vehicles and shifted the
body to the tehsil headquarters hospital.
It is pertinent to mention that over speeding at
the GT road passing through the city continues to be overlooked by
the National Highway and Motorway police,(NH&MP). In another
accident three persons were injured seriously as a pedestrian
was hit by
motorcyclists at GT road near Chehari on Monday evening. The
pedestrians Sajjad resident of Chehari while the pillion riders have
been identified as Shahid and Adnan .
